Job Details

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is seeking an outstanding clinician scientist to lead the Laboratory of Allergic Diseases in Bethesda, MD.

LAD conducts basic, translational, and clinical research on immunologic diseases with an emphasis on disorders of immediate hypersensitivity, which include the spectrum of classic allergic diseases. The laboratory is composed of an interactive group of PhDs, MDs, research nurses, technicians, and administrative staff, who work in contemporary laboratories adjacent to NIAID’s clinical facilities. Scientific personnel are engaged in basic and translational research aimed at understanding the genetics and pathology underlying the immune dysfunction associated with allergic inflammation. LAD houses the Allergy and Immunology Clinical Fellowship Training Program and the Allergy and Immunology Consultation Service for the NIH Clinical Center. See more information online at: Laboratory of Allergic Diseases.

Candidates must be US citizens with an MD or MD/PhD or equivalent and relevant board certification, preferably in internal medicine or pediatrics, with proven ability to carry out a strong independent research program. The selected person will also be expected to supervise other principal investigators with independent research programs.

The laboratory chief will have independent resources to conduct laboratory research and translational/clinical research, as appropriate. Committed resources include space, support personnel, and an allocated annual budget to cover service, supplies, and salaries. A laboratory chief in DIR is equivalent to a department chair in a university or medical school. Salary is dependent on experience, qualifications, and accomplishments. A full package of benefits (including retirement and health, life, and long-term care insurance) is available. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.
