Job Details

The Department of Psychiatry at the Zucker Hillside Hospital/Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Northwell Health is seeking a full-time board eligible/board certified psychiatrist to join our outpatient Perinatal Psychiatry Center. Though not a prerequisite, completion of advanced training in perinatal (reproductive) psychiatry and/or women’s mental health is preferred.

The Perinatal Psychiatry Center is a dynamic specialty Center within our comprehensive Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Department. This growing specialty Center articulates closely with our 22-bed inpatient psychiatry Women’s Unit with perinatal cluster in Zucker Hillside’s modern Behavioral Health Pavilion; with the Department of OB-GYN which delivers nearly 40,000 babies annually; with Northwell’s Katz Institute for Women’s Health; and with an elaborate and NIH-supported perinatal psychiatry/women’s behavioral health research enterprise under the leadership of pioneering perinatal psychiatry investigators. Furthermore, the Center will work closely with emerging behavioral health ‘collaborative care’ programs being integrated into Northwell’s extensive array of OB-GYN group practices.

The successful candidate will join our multi-disciplinary behavioral health team of experts. Participants include psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, and licensed mental health counselors who collectively provide state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapeutics, including sensitive and informed psychopharmacological management for this patient population, and applicable evidence-based therapies.

Examples of treatment focus in women with either new or existing psychopathology include:

  • Planning pregnancy
  • Seeking one-time psychotropic medication consultation
  • Maintaining psychiatric and psycho-social stability during pregnancy
  • Struggling with unexpected pregnancy outcomes such as miscarriage
  • Emerging and evolving psychiatric symptoms during pregnancy
  • Novel approaches in high-risk and/or treatment-refractory patients
  • Pregnant or post-partum women with complicated medical or social issues

Opportunities also exist for a significant teaching and supervisory role for psychiatry residents, consultation/liaison psychiatry fellows (including those participating in a specialized women’s/perinatal track), medical students, nursing and NP students, and psychology externs, interns and post-doctoral fellows; and for participation in cutting-edge funded research protocols.

Highly competitive compensation, benefits, and perquisites highlight our employment package. Academic appointment at our exciting new medical school, The Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, is available, commensurate with background and experience.

The Zucker Hillside Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center is located in Glen Oaks, approximately 15 miles east of Manhattan on the border of Nassau and Queens Counties. The area is noteworthy for desirable housing options in pleasant townships and easy access to diverse Long Island-based recreational activities (e.g. beaches, biking, parks, cultural attractions, and shopping).
