National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) Intramural Research Program

The NHGRI Intramural Research Program, an internationally recognized center for advancing human health through genomics research, is seeking multiple investigators to pursue innovative, independent genomic research at the National Institutes of Health. While broadly interested in applicants from all areas of genomics and genetics research, the NHGRI Intramural Research Program is especially interested in:

Tenure-track physician scientists pursuing research in one or more of the following areas -
Gene Therapy                            Common Diseases
Population Studies                    Targeted Therapies
Rare Diseases                            Medical Genetics
Medical Informatics                  Pediatric Subspecialties

Tenure-track genome scientists pursuing research in one or more of the following areas -
Statistical Genomics                 Systems Biology
Genetic Epidemiology              Functional Genomics
Bioinformatics/Data Science    Medical Informatics
Evolutionary Biology               Translational Genomics

Tenure-track genome scientists applying genetic and genomic approaches to understand the basic mechanisms of human disease, as well as health and non-disease human traits.

Successful candidates will join a highly collegial group of scientists within NHGRI and the NIH campus as a whole. In addition, successful candidates will have access to the unparalleled resources of the NIH Clinical Center, the NIH Intramural Sequencing Center (NISC), and NHGRI’s outstanding core facilities. The positions include a generous start-up allowance, an ongoing commitment of research space, laboratory and computational resources, clinical support, and positions for research personnel and trainees.

Candidates must have a PhD, MD, DDS/DMD, DVM, DO, RN/PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree, as well as comprehensive, advanced training and a record of accomplishment. Interested applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a three-page description of proposed research, and have three letters of recommendation submitted through our online application system, at: http://research.nhgri.nih.gov/apply. Please include in your CV a description of your mentoring and outreach activities, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic or other groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research. For more information on NHGRI’s Intramural Research Program, please see: http://genome.gov/DIR. Specific questions regarding the recruitment may be directed to Dr. Dan Kastner (dan.kastner@nih.gov), Scientific Director of the NHGRI Intramural Research Program, or Dr. Paul Liu (pliu@mail.nih.gov), the Deputy Scientific Director.

The NHGRI Intramural Research Program will also consider qualified candidates who have applied to the trans-NIH Stadtman Tenure-Track Investigator search, which will close on September 30. Information on this search may be found at: http://irp.nih.gov/careers/trans-nih-scientific-recruitments. To ensure consideration by the NHGRI Search Committee, a separate application to the NHGRI is encouraged. The NHGRI review of applications will begin on or around October 01, 2019. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Salary will be commensurate with experience. A full package of benefits, including retirement, health, life, and long-term care insurance, and a Thrift Savings Plan, is available. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) are Equal Opportunity Employers and encourage applications from women and minorities.
