The Department of Surgery at Duke University is conducting a search for a regular rank faculty member to serve as Director of Duke SCORES. Duke SCORES (Surgical Center for Outcomes Research) is an interdisciplinary effort that promotes excellence in health services research for various surgical patient populations. The SCORES Director will collaborate closely with clinical departments and institutes across the School of Medicine.

The ideal candidate is a nationally or internationally respected researcher (MD or PhD or other doctorate degree) with the skills necessary to develop an integrated collaborative academic strategy that meaningfully engages Duke surgeons, research institutes, other departments and programs, the Health System, industry and the wider community. The ideal candidate will have his or her own research portfolio and a skill set that complements and extends the capabilities of SCORES. The candidate must have demonstrated experience in successfully leading research teams including managing priorities, personnel, and resources.

Candidates must have experience in primary and secondary health services research, evidence synthesis and evaluation, health care data analysis and data/evidence synthesis. Experience in conducting health services research to include but not limited to the following: outcome studies, cost-benefit/cost-effectiveness studies, economic evaluation, shared decision making/patient reported outcomes. Candidates should also have expertise in economic research methods, including the use of big data sets and the ability to translate research findings for a policy audience.

Expertise in health services research, health policy, and health economics would be reviewed favorably. Prior NIH funding and knowledge of the NIH is desirable.
