The Division of Intramural Research, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), located in Bethesda, MD, is seeking an Otolaryngologist Surgeon Scientist for a Tenure Track position. The Surgeon Scientist is expected to establish an independent translational and clinical research program.

We welcome applications from candidates with clinical and translational laboratory research interests in disorders affecting human communication in one or more of NIDCD’s mission areas of hearing, balance, smell, taste, voice, speech, and language.

Preference will be given to candidates whose research or approaches complement those of our existing strong programs in genetics, cell biology, immunology, and clinical research. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of scientists and clinicians at the forefront of research on communication disorders. Experience conducting clinical and/or translational research is preferred.

The NIDCD offers an outstanding working environment including well-equipped basic and clinical research laboratories, genomic, audiology, imaging, and flow cytometry core facilities, state-of-the-art clinic, testing, and inpatient units in the NIH Clinical Center, and numerous opportunities for collaboration both within NIDCD and across the 27 Institutes and Centers that comprise NIH.

The position includes a generous start-up allowance, recently-renovated research and office space, laboratory resources, and positions for personnel and trainees.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess an MD, or MD, PhD, be board-eligible or board certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery, have post-doctoral research experience, and a record of outstanding publications. Leadership and administrative experience is preferred but not required.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Applications will be reviewed starting June 30, 2019 and accepted until the position is filled. Please include in your CV a description of your mentoring and outreach activities, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic or other groups that are under-represented in biomedical research.
