Tenure-Track Clinical Investigator
Clinical Research in Neuroscience
Division of Intramural Research Programs

Build a research program that matches your vision! The Intramural Research Programs (IRP) of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institutes of Health (NIH), invites outstanding individuals to apply for a tenure-track position in areas of clinical neuroscience research in mental health. Applicants can take advantage of opportunities to collaborate with existing IRP programs, in addition to initiating novel programs of clinic-based research. The NIMH IRP currently supports a wide range of clinical research programs in both child and adult psychiatry in the areas of neurodevelopment, cognitive/affective neuroscience, mood, anxiety, psychosis, and functional imaging (MRI, PET, MRS, and MEG). These programs operate in one of the largest and most active neuroscience research communities in the world. Facilities include state-of-the-art neuroimaging and inpatient and outpatient programs within the NIH Clinical Center, all dedicated to research, and located on the NIH Campus, Bethesda, Maryland. Visit: www.nimh.nih.gov and: www.clinicalcenter.nih.gov for more information.

A successful individual will be expected to develop and direct an independent research program that recruits and studies psychiatric patients and is focused on problems relevant to the mental health community. Outstanding individuals interested in the pathophysiology or treatment of disorders of neurodevelopmental, mood, anxiety, psychosis, and/or suicidal behaviors are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants should have interest and experience in the use of state-of-the-art techniques to study problems relevant to mental health including stem cell biology, genomics/epigenomics, systems neuroscience, pathophysiology, behavioral neuroscience, or experimental medicine. Each applicant must have earned an MD (or equivalent degree), an MD/PhD, or a PhD with a clinical background, and will have demonstrated the potential to become an outstanding independent clinical investigator. An individual selected for a position is expected to build a dynamic and productive patient-focused research group, mentor and train scientists, and make use of the excellent opportunities for collaborative, translational, and high-risk/high-reward science available at the NIH. Startup funds, access to shared research facilities, and on-going research support are competitive with premier academic institutions. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments and a full Civil Service package of benefits (including retirement, health, life and long-term care insurance, and a Thrift Savings Plan) is available.

Applicants should send curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement of research interests, and have three letters of reference sent to: Susan G. Amara, PhD, National Institute of Mental Health, c/o Jane Schriver via e-mail to: Jane.Schriver@nih.gov., indicating “Tenure-Track Clinical Recruit” in the subject line. Please include in your CV a description of your mentoring and outreach activities, especially those involving women and persons from racial/ethnic or other groups that are underrepresented in biomedical research. Applications will begin to be reviewed in early May and continue until the position is filled.
