The Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program at Maine Medical Center is seeking an experienced Clinician Educator to serve as Fellowship Program Director.

Maine Medical Center (MMC) has 637 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary hospital and a Level 1 Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and Fellowships, and an integral part of the Tufts University Medical School. Maine Medical Center supports over 250 Residents and Fellows in 14 residency programs and nine Fellowship programs approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Maine Medical Center’s Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program provides addiction medicine training opportunities in acute hospital care, inpatient consultation service, outpatient clinics, and community-based settings. The Fellowship is a multi-disciplinary program with a curriculum that spans multiple departments, clinical services, and community organizations.

MMC is partnering with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) on this Fellowship, enabling Fellows to work in both health care systems. The Togas VA Medical Center, located five miles east of Augusta, is a 67-operating bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate, and mental health beds, and strong addiction medicine programs. Fellows will spend time at Togus and affiliated outpatient VA clinics.

Candidates must have demonstrated ability as a clinician, medical educator, and administrator, and have an understanding of and commitment to addiction medicine, both in the hospital and in the outpatient setting. The Program Director will ensure that Fellows are properly supervised in carrying out their patient care responsibilities and develop and maintain an effective curriculum that complies with all elements of the Next Accreditation System including ACGME core competencies, milestones, and Clinical Learning Environment Reviews.

The Director will guide strategic planning for the ongoing growth and development of the Fellowship program, in cooperation with the Department of Family Medicine, the Division of Community and Preventive Medicine, and Maine Medical Center. The Director will act as a liaison between the Fellowship program, the outpatient teaching sites, community organizations, and the VA Hospital in Togas.

The Fellowship Program Director will be the faculty member responsible for the operation of the Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program with assistance from the Chair of Family Medicine and the Fellowship Program Coordinator. Candidates can be from any medical specialty and must be Board Certified in Addiction Medicine. This is a 20% position and we are seeking both internal and external candidates.

Situated on the Maine coast, Portland offers the best of urban sophistication combined with small-town friendliness.
