Indiana University Health Physicians is seeking an Organ Procurement Surgeon (OPS) to join their dynamic Thoracic Transplant program in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.

The OPS will participate in heart and lung procurement. When on duty, the OPS will be immediately available to respond to all calls for retrieval of organs from outside institutions. Travel by jet, helicopter, and ground ambulance is a required component of this position. The OPS may also work as an assistant surgeon with a heart/lung transplant attending physician and assist with office practice and research as applicable.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Requires current, unrestricted Indiana medical license (if not held, assistance in obtaining will be provided)
  • Requires knowledge of policies and procedures for area.
  • Experience in organ procurement.
  • Demonstrated clinical ability and experience to perform duties and responsibilities as outlined above.
  • Work effectively in a surgical service environment.
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to promote high-quality patient outcomes.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills and clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully interact with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Allow 3-6 weeks of vacation and
  • Take 2 weekends of donor call/month
