Overview

The Division of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Epidemiology at Intermountain Medical Center and LDS Hospital seeks an Infectious Diseases Physician to serve as Medical Director of Antimicrobial Stewardship at Intermountain Medical Center with a clinical focus on immunocompromised patients and transplant Infectious Diseases. Intermountain Healthcare is an integrated healthcare system with 23 hospitals throughout Utah and Southern Idaho. The Infectious Diseases Division is a diverse and growing team engaged in providing inpatient consultation at two Intermountain hospitals in Salt Lake City and remote services to 17 community hospitals through our tele-ID program. We are seeking an Infectious Diseases physician (MD or DO) to provide inpatient and outpatient consultation, in both teaching and on-teaching capacity. Additionally, the incumbent will be expected to participate in Antimicrobial Stewardship activities at Intermountain Medical Center along with coordinating Infectious Diseases support to the transplant services (primarily solid organ transplant with backup support to the bone marrow transplant program). Opportunities exist to participate in research, teaching and Tele-Infectious diseases. Academic rank to be determined based on experience.

Physician Responsibilities

  • Serve as antimicrobial stewardship medical director at Intermountain Medical Center (0.25 FTE). Duties include supervision of two antimicrobial stewardship pharmacists at Intermountain Medical Center in collaboration with the system-wide antimicrobial stewardship program. Stewardship activities include daily handshake stewardship rounds, prospective audit with intervention and feedback, and review of patients requiring outpatient IV antibiotics.
  • Support to solid organ transplant program (0.25 FTE). This includes direct infectious diseases related care of patients pre- and post-transplant; availability for curbside consults; organ acceptance and other indirect transplant patient care; development of protocol and best practice guideline development in collaboration with current transplant ID physician partner and transplant teams, attend transplant organ selection and group conferences. Serve as the primary resource and ID subject matter expert to the transplant programs and the medical staff. Provide direct inpatient and outpatient clinical care as part of physician coverage pool to maintain coverage at Salt Lake City hospitals.
  • Teach University of Utah ID Fellows, housestaff and medical students during inpatient consultation services
  • Help shape development of an immunocompromised service
  • Perform quality improvement projects and research activities focused on infectious diseases in transplant recipients and antimicrobial stewardship
  • Candidate will have the opportunity to seek academic appointment at the University of Utah


Physician Skills and Background

  • Infectious diseases board certified/eligible
  • Experience and demonstrated scholarly interest in infectious diseases
  • Excellent communication skills and good teaching ability
  • Ability and desire to support the quality improvement, teaching and research activities of the division and Intermountain Healthcare
  • Experience or additional training in transplant infectious diseases
