Director (Chief), Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at Morsani College of Medicine at University of South Florida Health
and
Medical Director, Cardiovascular Service Line at Tampa General Hospital

The University of South Florida (USF) and Tampa General Hospital (TGH) announces a national search for a distinguished academic leader in cardiology to serve as the Director (Chief), Division of Cardiovascular Sciences within the Department of Internal Medicine, Morsani College of Medicine. The Director will also serve as the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line of TGH.

The Division has 37 full-time faculty and serves as a vital clinical cardiology resource within the region. USF Health is the only academic faculty practice in the Tampa metropolitan statistical area, which includes a population over 4 million and has the fourth fastest growth rate in the nation. Thus, the Division's growth potential is extraordinary. As Chief/Medical Director, the successful candidate will have accountability for the coordination of quality, safety, and operations of all clinical activities of Cardiovascular Sciences faculty. They will be expected to bring improvement to clinical operations, especially patient access and referring physician satisfaction. As Medical Director, they will partner with TGH administrative leadership to enhance the national reputation of cardiovascular services provided at TGH and to expand the breadth and depth of top-rated cardiac programs at TGH and its ambulatory sites.

The Chief/Medical Director will assume the role at a time of positive change both within the College and the clinical and research environment of the Division. Leveraging state support and a generous gift of land in downtown Tampa, the College is midway through construction of a 395,000 sq. ft. cutting-edge academic and cardiovascular research facility located in the new Water Street Tampa development, which is the centerpiece of the city's future downtown area. The Water Street location of the Institute and Division is in close proximity to the College's primary teaching hospital, Tampa General Hospital (TGH). State-of-the-art laboratories and core facilities will open by late 2019 to foster scientific exchange and collaboration among teams of scientists working in basic, translational, and clinical research. A key component of the project is the USF Health Heart Institute, which will occupy over 100,000 sq. ft. of net usable laboratory space on 4 floors of the building.

The Chief/Medical Director will be expected to contribute to the Division's journey to a stronger academic culture, one focused on evidence-based medicine and a deep commitment to quality and safety in patient care; preparation for value-based care; strong support for enhancing a fellowship program to be competitive with top national training programs; and the integration of discovery and innovation with clinical practice.
