The Cardiology Section at the Brooklyn Campus of VA New York Harbor is seeking a Chief Resident for the Telemetry Service for July 2019. This is a one or two year PGY 4 or PGY 5 clinical and research position under the direct supervision of the Chief of Cardiology.

The main clinical responsibility is to evaluate patients admitted to the eight-bed telemetry unit and to ensure appropriate inpatient and post-discharge care. 

The successful candidate will also be asked to participate in ongoing Cardiology research programs.

The position offers exposure to all aspects of clinical Cardiology and had provided previous candidates with a unique experience which resulted in successful applications to Cardiology fellowship training programs. 

Candidates must have completed a three-year Internal Medicine residency program, and be a permanent resident or US citizen.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
