Job Details

The Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center are pleased to announce an exceptional opportunity for a recognized leader in addiction medicine to serve as Medical Director for the Grayken Center for Addiction.

Over the last 25 years, Boston Medical Center (BMC) has become one of the most comprehensive and influential centers for addiction treatment in the country. BMC has created widely replicated care models and training programs for those on the front lines of the opioid crisis sweeping the nation. In early 2017, Boston Medical Center received a $25 million gift from Eilene and John Grayken to intensify BMC’s fight against the burgeoning opioid epidemic, the most pressing public health crisis of our time. The generous gift, the largest donation in BMC’s history and the biggest private gift for addiction treatment and medicine in the U.S. in the last decade, has led to the creation of the Grayken Center for Addiction to focus on three aspects of addiction medicine: research, treatment, and training & prevention.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Medical Director will participate in the development and execution of the Center’s strategic efforts to advance addiction services across the care continuum while ensuring alignment with Boston Medical Center’s commitment to providing high-value, patient-centered care consistent with the institution’s mission for caring for Boston’s underserved. The Medical Director will develop and lead strategic efforts to improve substance use disorder services across BMC patient populations including, but not limited to, expanding clinical training and education, improving diagnoses and engagement in care, and enhancing overdose prevention efforts.

The successful candidate will maintain current board certification in either Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Psychiatry and have specialty training in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry. The candidate must have a track record of leadership in addiction care delivery and possess an appreciation of the challenges of an academic medical center. Demonstrated leadership in managing and improving quality and care delivery efficiency in complex and highly diverse patient populations and a proven ability to engage and influence key stakeholders and colleagues to achieve desired outcomes are essential. Faculty appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
