THE POSITION: The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Division of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition (DDDN) is seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as the Senior Scientific Advisor for basic, translational, and clinical research in diseases of the digestive system with a focus on the alimentary tract. He/she will be responsible for management of a portfolio of grants and cooperative agreements which may include complex clinical studies and clinical trials. The incumbent will be responsible for multiple phases of research management, including advising potential applicants on design of their studies, monitoring peer review, presentation of recommendations to the NIDDK Advisory Council, award decisions, and post award oversight of the conduct of the research. The incumbent will also participate in development of new research programs and initiatives, research workshops, reports, and strategic planning. The incumbent will work collaboratively with multiple other offices and divisions in NIDDK to achieve the research mission and will serve as a representative of DDDN to other NIH institutes and government agencies and non-governmental organizations.

The incumbent must possess an MD or equivalent degree, with sub-specialization in Gastroenterology, significant prior experience as an investigator in digestive diseases, and knowledge of best practices in basic, translational, and clinical research.
