The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is recruiting for a Supervisory Physician (GP-0602-15) to serve as the Associate Director for the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program, which directs and guides an extensive national program of cancer research by sponsoring clinical trials to evaluate new anti-cancer agents and treatment approaches. The individual must be a US citizen. The candidate should have a clinical background and training in a relevant oncology sub-specialty, (such as medical oncology, pediatric oncology, etc.) pharmacology, clinical trials, and the development of investigational anti-cancer drugs. This Supervisory Physician will serve as the Associate Director for the Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), which is an extramural division of the NCI. The Associate Director provides oversight of CTEP: https://ctep.cancer.gov/ and its six branches which are composed of the following: Clinical Investigations Branch (CIB) is responsible for the for the oversight of the National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN) that conducts practice-changing treatment and advanced imaging clinical trials; Clinical Trials Monitoring Branch (CTMB) which is responsible for on-site auditing of all clinical trials sponsored by CTEP; Clinical Trials Operations and Informatics Branch (CTOIB) which oversees multiple systems for efficient business practices and informatics tools as well as central review of clinical trials for human safety protection; Investigational Drug Branch (IDB) which implements and monitors a wide-reaching national and international early drug development program; Pharmaceutical Management Branch (PMB) which provisions agents for clinical trials sponsored by CTEP, and registers over 8,000 investigators that participate in CTEP's clinical trials. Regulatory Affairs Branch(RAB) which ensures that clinical studies are carried out according to FDA regulations and guidelines and provides IND support for agents being developed by CTEP/DCTD. The Supervisory Physician will also serve as a senior clinical expert to the DCTD Division Director, the NCI Director, and will be responsible for the NCI's national clinical trials effort, which encompasses over 350 active clinical trials and enrolls over 25,000 patients annually. The CTEP Associate Director has a unique opportunity to have a major impact on clinical oncology research in the U.S. and worldwide. The Program convenes multiple meetings annually with opinion leaders from around the world to review new research directions and opportunities. In addition, the Program has recently developed a preclinical component that links CTEP drug development activities with some of the premier academic laboratories in the United States. The candidate's responsibilities will include providing patient care or services incident to patient care in the DCTD Developmental Therapeutics Clinic, or similar service. In addition, the candidate will coordinate the efforts of the CTEP grant portfolio along with similar efforts by other programs within DCTD, NCI, and the NIH, and provide information and interpret the program to grant applicants, grantees, and the general public.
