Is seeking an outstanding physician-scientist to serve as the Chief of our Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine (PACCM). We are looking for an individual with exemplary leadership, administrative, and mentoring skills who maintains a significant extramural grant portfolio and will work to enhance the clinical, research, and educational activities of the Division. The University of Pittsburgh is annually ranked in the top five institutions in terms of NIH funding dollars, and UPMC, as a partner, continues to make major investments in the academic mission of the School of Medicine. PACCM is one of the largest, most productive, and respected pulmonary divisions in the USA, ranking 7th in the nation in 2018 by US News & World Report with more than 100 faculty and $22 million in annual research expenditures. The Division houses several world class research centers and institutes including, the Acute Lung Injury Center of Excellence, the Simmons Center for Interstitial Lung Disease, the Center for Pulmonary Vascular Biology and Medicine, the Asthma Institute, the Center for Medicine and the Microbiome, the HIV Lung Research Center, the Center for Sleep and Cardiovascular Outcomes Research, the Cystic Fibrosis Research Center, the Emphysema COPD Research Center, the Small Molecule Therapeutics Center, and the Transplantation Immunology Center. Clinically. PACCM has built a robust enterprise covering eight UPMC hospitals, 123 ICU beds, over 25,000 clinic visits, and 85,000 inpatient encounters per year, and both inpatient and outpatient telemedicine services. Furthermore, the division houses multiple subspecialty clinical programs including world-class cystic fibrosis and lung transplant programs. Thus, the Division has a strong translational research infrastructure and maintains a large and diverse clinical profile, as well as overseeing a highly competitive educational and fellowship program that includes a T32 training grant in its 31st year. The selected candidate will be provided substantial resources to create or expand centers of excellence and recruit a pool of talented physicians, physician-scientists, and PhD faculty to enhance the research, clinical, and educational missions of the Division.
