The Duke University Health System Department of Pathology is seeking an outstanding academically oriented pathologist for a full-time position as a Hematopathologist. This faculty member will join the current team of four members in the Division of Hematopathology. Ideal candidates are excellent diagnosticians with a deep interest in teaching, scholarship, and research, who function well in a team setting. They will have expertise in morphologic interpretation of blood, bone marrow, lymph node and other lymphoid tissues as well as fluid samples and proficiency in interpreting clinical flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics. Demonstrated clinical and/or translational research experience and active interest in laboratory administration is desirable. Candidates must have an MD or DO degree and a valid NC medical license or qualifications to obtain one. ABP Board Certified in AP and CP, and subspecialty board certification in hematopathology are also required.

This faculty member would participate in a busy clinical service, which includes signing out biopsies of bone marrow, lymph node, spleen and other tissues with suspected leukemia or lymphoma involvement. Service responsibility includes signing out peripheral blood films, body fluid and fine needle cytology from suspected hematologic diseases, protein and hemoglobin electrophoresis, molecular diagnosis including NGS, cytogenetics and FISH tests. The Hematopathology division handles 2000 in-house bone marrows, 800 body fluid and FNA samples, 600 lymphoid tissue biopsies, 4000 multiparametric flow cytometry cases, 5000 cytogenetics/FISH cases, 15000 molecular diagnostic cases, and 25000 protein and immunofixation electrophoreses annually. The Division provides diagnostic services to an expanding team of renowned pediatric and adult hematologists and hemato-oncologists.

The Department has 68 faculty and 28 residents and clinical fellows, including a hematopathology fellow, operating in a predominantly subspecialty-oriented model. The environment at Duke provides rich opportunities for exceptional clinical and translational research, both within the Department and in other Centers of Excellence in the Medical Center including the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Academic rank and salary are commensurate with training and experience. Duke offers a generous retirement program, college tuition assistance for dependents, CME allowances, an array of benefits including health, dental and life insurance, and support for relocation.
