The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in New Orleans, is seeking two academic Neonatologists to join our faculty group. The Division of Neonatology provides inpatient care for sick infants at Children’s Hospital, N.O., Touro Infirmary, East Jefferson General Hospital, North Oaks Medical Center, and Slidell Memorial Hospital. We are involved in the education of the largest group of medical students, pediatric residents, and neonatology fellows in the state.

The Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans is dedicated to excellence in patient care, mastery in teaching, and continuous learning. The Department boasts approximately eighty faculty members representing all pediatric sub-specialties. Training programs include an annual medical school class of two hundred and approximately one hundred post-graduate trainees in categorical pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics, child neurology, combined pediatrics and emergency medicine, and most pediatric sub-specialty fellowship areas.

Academic appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (non-tenure, clinical track), with rank to be determined by the candidate’s credentials and experience. The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of activities. Primary clinical responsibilities of the position include patient care in a variety of settings. Educational responsibilities include supervision and instruction of medical students, residents, fellows, and other learners from the multi-disciplinary LSUHSC community. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the advancement of scholarly or educational activities within the Department. There are abundant opportunities for educational, clinical, translational, and quality and outcomes research initiatives across the health sciences center.

The Department of Pediatrics is located predominantly at Children's Hospital of New Orleans. Children’s Hospital is Louisiana’s only free-standing children’s hospital. The 247-bed tertiary care teaching and clinical care complex is located in the heart of New Orleans. Children’s is in the beginning stages of a 5-year and $225 million expansion project.

Qualifications

  • MD or MD/PhD or equivalent
  • Board certified/board eligible (or equivalent) in Neonatology
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Louisiana before start date
