CHOC Children’s is an extensive regional pediatric healthcare network, affiliated with University of California, Irvine, and includes a state-of-the-art 334-bed main hospital facility in the City of Orange, and a hospital-within-a-hospital in Mission Viejo. CHOC Children’s leadership and steadfast commitment to defining the future of pediatric medicine has led to national recognition as one of the Best Children’s Hospitals in six categories, including neurology and neurosurgery, by US News & World Report. In addition to their multiple primary and specialty care clinics, CHOC Children’s includes four centers of excellence and a Research Institute. CHOC Children’s Neuroscience Institute is one of the leading pediatric programs in the nation, providing comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and surgical care for infants to teens with disorders of the brain, spine, muscles, and central and peripheral nervous systems. The Neuroscience Institute includes the only pediatric neuroscience hospital unit in the region, including dedicated beds for seizure monitoring, and a Level 4 pediatric epilepsy center providing cutting-edge care, services and research.

The Division Chief and Co-Medical Director of CHOC Children’s Neuroscience Institute will further the clinical, teaching, and research missions and provide administrative and financial leadership for the Division and Neuroscience Institute. As an accomplished physician and clinical leader, the Division Chief and Co-Medical Director will build the neurosurgical expertise of the hospital and care delivery network, develop and enhance patient care programs and resources, and expand research activities across the clinical enterprise. The Division Chief and Co-Medical Director will attract high performing physicians, establish high quality, evidence-based practices, enhance residency and education programs and research portfolios, and further develop referral relationships throughout the region. The Division Chief and Co-Medical Director will serve as a key liaison between Divisions, Children’s Specialists leadership, CHOC Children’s Administration, CHOC Executive Management, and with collaborative partners.

Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of academic accomplishments in pediatric neurosurgical clinical care, education, and research in a highly regarded pediatric organization. The responsibilities of this position include clinical care, administration, program and referral development, research, and faculty recruitment initiatives. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to advance clinical programs and research are required. The position requires current Board Certification in pediatric neurosurgery and may have a subspecialty focus. Candidates must be able to obtain a California medical license.
