SENIOR DIRECTOR, DIVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH

Mineola, Long Island, NY. The new NYU Long Island School of Medicine (NYU-LI SoM) and its Research Institute seeks an accomplished, tenure-track investigator to conduct healthcare delivery system research and to direct its new Division of Health Services Research.

The role of the Division of Health Services Research is central to the overall mission of the new Medical School, which is: To train skilled primary care physicians who can also advance the health of populations as leaders in research and the translation of new knowledge into policy and practice. This new Division will bridge academia and the healthcare delivery system to advance research and practice in implementation science, quality of care, and patient safety. It will be an academic home for researchers and educators interested in the practical application of health services research, epidemiology, industrial and human factors engineering principles, mixed methods evaluation, predictive analytics, clinical informatics, and safety science and quality improvement methodology, all as applied to real-world healthcare delivery challenges. The Division faculty will also teach about these themes to medical students in the new medical school.

Core interests of candidates can include:

  • Health Care Delivery Science, including evaluation of system-level interventions and models of care;
  • Biostatistics and other Data Science Methodologies; or
  • Clinical Informatics

The NYU-LI SoM Research Institute has an especially strong program in basic, clinical, and translational studies of diabetes, obesity and their complications; investigators aligned with these interests are especially encouraged to consider this opportunity.

Requirements for this position include an excellent record of quality scholarship and extramural funding as Principal Investigator; a track record of strong leadership and mentoring skills; an established research agenda supporting appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor; a strong commitment to and interest in teaching; and a passion for improving healthcare. Core qualifications include: PhD and/or MD or equivalent doctorate degree. For physician investigator candidates, board certification or eligibility and NY State licensure or eligibility is required.

Scholarship that bridges disciplines is encouraged across departments with NYU's many schools, centers, and institutes. In particular, there is a strong and growing set of collaborations with NYU School of Medicine’s Department of Population Health, including its Division of Healthcare Delivery Science. There are other remarkable research opportunities in collaboration with NYU Langone Health, and with a broad range of NYC metro area government, community and academic partners.
