Background:

Winn Army Community Hospital is a 112-bed community hospital which will feature a new Women’s Health and Mammography Center.  Our healthcare team provides primary and specialty care for a patient population of over 70,000.  As a civilian family practice physician you will play an integral role in providing exceptional healthcare to the Soldiers and Families in our great Army and the 3rd Infantry Division. 

Key supporting specialties at Winn include OB/Gyn, general and orthopedic surgery, EENT, Psychiatry, Dermatology, and Urology.  Enjoy the benefits of a full inpatient and outpatient EMR with digital radiography. 

Located in Coastal Georgia you can enjoy good schools, new industry and community growth, and exceptional coastal recreation and golf in the local area.  The Hinesville/Savannah, Georgia area is located less than 30 minutes from the beach.  We enjoy a low cost of living and a vibrant Savannah night life with great restaurants.  Multiple top notch universities are in the area including Georgia Southern University, Armstrong Atlantic State University, and the Savannah College of Art and Design.  Many of our physicians enjoy living in the upscale suburbs of Savannah including Richmond Hill, Pooler, and Hinesville, and many of these locations include direct deep water access.  These are quintessential small town communities with close access to the city of Savannah.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational Health Program, regulations, and for ongoing development and operations of all activities in support of the occupational health program for all activities.
  • Maintain the medical examination program, which includes pre-employment/inprocessing evaluations, baseline health examinations, periodic non-occupational and occupational medical surveillance.
  • Perform pre-travel examinations and administrative examinations, such as fitness-for-duty, return to work, short and long term disability and disability retirement examinations and evaluations.
  • Review medical information submitted or requested.
  • Supervisory positions will make diagnoses and evaluate conditions on the basis of history, physical examination, test results, and medical expertise.
  • Supervisory positions will plan and implement the medical components of the occupational medicine program
  • Supervisory positions will supervise clinical and ancillary staff within the occupational health service.

Duties

  • Serves as an Occupational health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Provider; providing Occupational Medicine and Preventive Medicine services to working adults ages 16-80 years IAW AR 4O-5, DA Pam 40-11, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
  • The incumbent serves in an Occupational Medicine at FSGA, MEDDAC. Duties include case management for the civilian population of FT Stewart, GA. (FSGA).
  • Responsible for the independent examination, diagnosis, and treatment within personal credentials and privileges delineated by the MTF. Assignments include a wide range of activities including assessing, planning, evaluating, and modifying the treatment of patients in various locations throughout the MTF.
  • Performs occupational medicine physical examinations independently and in collaboration with Preventive Medicine (PM), which may include, but is not limited to: pre-employment/in processing evaluations, baseline health examinations, periodic occupational medical surveillance, and administrative examinations, such as fitness-for-duty, return to work, short and long term disability and disability retirement examinations.
  • Performs pre-placement evaluations from a standpoint of prevention of occupational injuries and illnesses including the detection of pre-existing conditions that might be aggravated by a particular assignment and determines whether the individual is physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing a particular job or assignment with an acceptable degree of efficiency and without endangering their own health and safety or that of their fellow employees. Evaluates individuals with disabilities to determine if they can perform the essential job functions and makes recommendation for reasonable accommodations.
  • Performs evaluations on individuals who have been absent from the workplace for a specified period of time due to illness, injury, or other reasons; for temporary or permanent reassignment; and for a variety of other reasons to ensure they are physically and/or emotionally fit for duty. Performs evaluations and provides medical preparations for employees traveling to other parts of the world.
  • Performs physical examinations/evaluations and laboratory tests appropriate to the various occupational exposures encountered by employees, treats job-related injuries and illnesses of the employees, and prescribes further care and treatment as appropriate.
  • Makes diagnosis and evaluates patient’s condition on the basis of examination, reports and medical experience. For intermediate, long-term care, for personal health, refers patients to medical specialists or to their primary health care provider.
  • Contributes to the Respiratory Protection Program by providing medical clearance to wear a respirator, and the Blood borne Pathogen Programs by reviewing cases of exposure to blood borne pathogens. Provides for reproductive hazard and pregnancy surveillance.
  • As supported by local facility, may provide first aid or one-time palliative treatment to civilian employees who require medical attention during duty hours, which is beyond the scope of the normal delegated authority of the nursing staff.
  • Advises employees of additional medical attention needed. Provides treatment for minor injuries or refers injured person to appropriate medical treatment facility or health care provider. Provides additional preventive medicine clinical services to include diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, travel health consultation, initial evaluation and management of latent tuberculosis cases, tobacco cessation counseling and therapy.
  • Serves as consultant to the supported activity commanders and staff, advising on medical, occupational health, industrial hygiene matters. Refers employees to the Employee Assistance Program counselor for the discussion or treatment of physical or mental health problems which are related to an employee's emotional problems/stress found during clinic visits. Also serves as consultant to health education and worksite wellness staff to ensure that programs meet quality medical standards.
  • Will serve as the installation’s Public Health Emergency Officer and make recommendations for maintaining force health and implementing DoD Directive 6200.3 in conjunction with the installation’s Force Protection Officer. Will be a member of the installation’s Force Health Protection Committee and participate in installation’s mass casualty exercises to the extent of the MEDDAC’s resources.
  • Maintains monitoring oversight of the work environment by performing worksite visits and by coordination/evaluation of industrial hygiene, environmental science, safety and other surveys and inspections. Participates in making recommendations for improvements/resolutions. Conducts on-site surveys of work areas and obtains first- hand information concerning the nature of various work operations and the potential hazard exposure. Hazards encountered may include chemicals, pesticides, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, noise hazards, eye hazards, biological hazards and other environmental conditions.
  • Reviews with the Occupational Health Program Manager the health hazard inventory of each operation and determines specific medical monitoring examination requirements for pre-placement and periodic job-related examinations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Physician (Occupational Medicine)/Supervisory Physician (Occupational Medicine):

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training for GP-14 Position: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Preventive Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
Residency Training for GP-15 Position: Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Preventive Medicine) and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.
