Founded in 1916, Morton Plant Hospital (MPH) was the first hospital built in northern Pinellas County. Today it is a 687-bed facility, offering more than 50 specialty services and is currently undergoing a four-year expansion project to better meet the needs of the community.

MPH has a dedicated open-heart surgical unit in Morgan Heart Hospital, consisting of 21 private universal patient rooms, four open-heart surgical suites and a hybrid operating room. As a national leader in cardiovascular health, MPH conducts more open-heart and interventional procedures than any other hospital in Pinellas County. Each year, over 600 cardiothoracic surgeries, 3,800 interventional procedures and 3,200 diagnostic services are performed, and the nationally-renowned heart program continues to grow.

The newest addition to MPH is the Structural Heart and Valve Clinic for treating patients with cardiac valve disorders. Within this new clinic, cardiovascular surgeons and cardiologists work side-by-side in Tampa Bay’s most advanced hybrid operative suite to perform lifesaving procedures, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) procedure, MitraClip, and multiple other structural heart procedures.

MPH is the only heart hospital in the country to be recognized for 14 years by Truven as one of the Top 50 U.S. Hospitals for Cardiovascular Services.
