Job Details

Northwell Health is seeking a fulltime academic Acute Care Surgeon BE/BC in Surgical Critical Care/Trauma Surgery to join the faculty at our North Shore University Hospital campus (in Manhasset, NY). This is an excellent opportunity to work as a Clinician Educator in a high acuity environment with a very supportive and experienced team.

The qualified candidate will join a team of eight other attendings in North Shore University Hospital’s (NSUH) Division of Acute Care Surgery.  Surgeons will rotate through the Surgical ICU and Acute Care Surgery services.  NSUH was the first ACS-COT Verified Level I Trauma Center in the New York City trauma system, and admits approximately 2,300 trauma patients annually.  The Division also manages the 18-bed Surgical Intensive Care Unit with over 1,300 annual admissions.  In addition, the Division completed over 600 emergency general surgery operative cases in 2017.   Lastly, the Division is actively involved in research at the basic science, translational, and clinical level.  Trauma-related research at NSUH currently has over $2 million in outside funding.

Northwell Health is New York State’s largest health care provider and private employer, with 23 hospitals, more than 600 outpatient facilities and nearly 15,000 affiliated physicians.  North Shore University Hospital is one of the cornerstones of Northwell Health, providing the full spectrum of clinical health care services for patients of all ages. We offer a wide range of specialty and subspecialty residency programs, postgraduate training programs and clinical fellowships for research and education.  NSUH is located on Long Island, approximately 14 miles from midtown Manhattan.  This area offers access to world-class cultural and educational opportunities.

The right candidate will have a strong commitment to medical student and resident education.  Interest in translational and/or clinical research is also desirable.  We are an equal opportunity employer; rank at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell will be commensurate with qualifications.
