The Patient Safety Research Program is a multi-disciplinary collaboration between Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, working across multiple departments including Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Nursing, Quality, Information Technology, and Biomedical Informatics. The mission of the Patient Safety Research Program is to develop and test innovative strategies for improving patient safety using rigorous research methods. Through leveraging health information technology, the Patient Safety Research Program conducts federally funded as well as hospital-supported research projects to test solutions that are replicable, scalable, and make a real difference in improving patient safety.

Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) provides global leadership in scientific research, health and medical education, and patient care. CUIMC provides a nationally recognized research environment where a wide variety of clinical disciplines and basic research departments collaborate. The Department of Medicine now ranks second in the country for research funding. Faculty from health-related schools at CUIMC, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Mailman School of Public Health, are involved in the Patient Safety Research Fellowship program. New-York Presbyterian Hospital, the hospital Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, is a large tertiary care hospital, with leading specialists in every field of medicine.
