Job Details

Northwell Health, the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra Northwell, and the Katz Institute for Woman’s Health (KIWH) is seeking a mid-career or senior level generalist provider with clinical and scholarly expertise in women’s health to establish the section of Primary Care Women’s Health in the Division of General Internal Medicine. The need to launch a women’s health section within the Division represents a perfect opportunity to align the mission and vision of our Department of Medicine with that of the Katz Institute for Women’s Health.

The Katz Institute for Women’s Health (KIWH) was established at Northwell (formerly North Shore-LIJ) through the generous support of Saul and Iris Katz. The Katz’s understood that women’s health must “move beyond the bikini approach” to provide a more holistic way to take care of women in our community. The Katz Women’s Hospitals were built as exceptional inpatient facilities for women’s Ob/Gyn needs. At the same time, efforts were made to launch the Katz Institute for Women’s Health.  The initial focus of KIWH was community education but has more recently expanded to redefine the care model for women and their families.

The KIWH is modeled after the original NIH Center of Excellence in Women’s Health designation with programs focused on four pillars: clinical service that is gender-specific and patient and family centered, research that focuses on a sex and gender specific approach, community partnerships that align with the unique and culturally appropriate needs of our varied communities, and education and health literacy focused on optimizing outcomes through expanding knowledge of professionals and patient/consumers.

The goal of the Section of Primary Women’s Health is to provide high quality, integrated clinical services, education, and leading-edge research on women’s health and gender-specific primary care. The Section will support areas of health where the risk and prevalence of disease in women is significant, and in which women have been traditionally under-diagnosed, under-treated, or underserved. The Katz Institute for Women’s Health will provide access to specialties - cardiology; gynecology, including urogynecology; endocrinology, including diabetes and osteoporosis; gastroenterology; rheumatology; neurology; dermatology; mental health; renal medicine; and nutrition.

The successful candidate will have either formal training in women’s health through fellowship or a minimum of five years’ experience in an academic women’s health program. Success in academia and scholarly work at the associate or professor level is expected.

Less than a decade old, the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell has already received accolades as one of the most innovative training centers in the country. Northwell Health is one of the largest health systems in the country, comprising 23 hospitals, over 61,000 employees, and 3,600 physicians, and is world-renowned for its visionary and caring approach to healthcare. Strategic alliances with the Cleveland Clinic, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and others, extend the system's reach. A short walk from North Shore University Hospital is the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, one of the nation’s top biomedical research facilities. The scope, size, and diversity of the health system help to create a rich set of opportunities.
