New Physician Advisor Opening in Virginia

Centra is an award-winning, regional healthcare system in central Virginia comprising 4 hospitals and more than 50 primary care/specialty practices.'

As our Physician Advisor, you'll conduct clinical reviews of cases to ensure that we're meeting regulatory requirements - and to ensure that we're maintaining our high standards of patient care and efficient resource utilization. In this role, you'll also provide guidance to other physicians on issues throughout the entire continuum of care, from evidence-based medicine indicators to end-of-life care. 'You will have the opportunity to continue your own direct care of patients, with an administrative/clinical balance of approximately 80/20.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Direct oversight of utilization review, quality resource management, and clinical documentation improvement
• Serve as a liaison between clinical documentation specialists and the medical staff
• Effectively communicate with and educate documentation staff
• Conduct medical record review in appropriate cases for medical necessity of inpatient admission, need for continued hospital stay, and adequacy of discharge planning and quality care management

Candidate Description:

• Must have medical degree and completion of residency training in clinical specialty
• 5+ years experience in active practice
• 3+ years experience in a position involving quality management, case management, utilization review, or medical staff leadership
