The Department of Medicine of the MetroHealth System (MHS), a principal teaching hospital of the Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine, seeks a dynamic and respected leader in academic cardiology for Director of the Division of Cardiology in the CWRU Department of Medicine at MetroHealth and Director of the Heart and Vascular Center of the MetroHealth System. The candidate would also be proposed for the Louis Rakita, MD and Maurice Moss, MD Professor of Cardiology, an endowed professorship at CWRU School of Medicine.
The MHS is a fully integrated provider of high quality healthcare, consisting of the 731-bed MetroHealth Medical Center and 13 additional inpatient and outpatient facilities throughout Cuyahoga County.
This outstanding physician/scientist will lead the tradition of excellence in clinical service, research, teaching, and postgraduate training within the Division of Cardiology and will expand its superb research, clinical, and fellowship training programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing outstanding care for patients with cardiac disorders and for training the next generation of cardiologists. Areas of active research include mechanisms and prevention of sudden cardiac death, Long QT Syndrome and genetic susceptibility to heart disease, and leadership in multicenter clinical trials in heart failure and arrhythmias. The new Director would have the opportunity to foster interactions with the Case Cardiovascular Research Institute, the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Physiology and Biophysics at CWRU, and with the strong MetroHealth campus programs including the Center for Health Care Research and Policy, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, and the Cleveland Clinical Translational Sciences Collaborative.
Qualified applicants should hold an MD or MD/PhD, and must be board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology. Externally-funded and published expertise in basic, translational, clinical trials, or health outcomes research in cardiology is required. Applicants should be eligible for employment in the US and for an Ohio medical license. Experience in building programs and leading groups, faculty and fellow recruiting, and postgraduate education are preferred. Compensation and tenure will be commensurate with experience and achievement.
