Chief Medical Officer
Beth Israel Deaconess Care Organization (BIDCO)

BIDCO is a value-based physician and hospital Accountable Care Organization (ACO). We offer physician groups and hospitals the structure to contract, share risk, and build care management systems together, with the goal of providing the highest quality care in the most cost-efficient way through effective population health management.

BIDCO was an early adopter of merging global budget accountability with the delivery of high-quality care, and is one of the Pioneer ACOs contracted with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. To deliver value to patients, commercial payors, and the government, BIDCO leverages the shared skills of more than 2,400 primary care physicians (PCPs) and specialists, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and six community hospitals including Beth Israel Deaconess Needham, Beth Israel Deaconess Milton, Beth Israel Deaconess Plymouth, Cambridge Health Alliance, Lawrence General Hospital, and Anna Jaques Hospital.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) has the opportunity to play a strategic role in BIDCO’s continued success. We seek an innovative transformational physician leader to join our well-established and high performing team and network.

Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Medical Officer is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, engaged in defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. In addition, this position leads the overall clinical vision for the organization and provides clinical direction to the staff which support the clinical and quality programs. The position provides medical oversight, expertise, and leadership to ensure the delivery of affordable quality healthcare services. Responsibilities also include the strategy, development, and implementation of innovative clinical programs that include collaboration with strategic business partners.

The CMO will contribute to the strategic planning process and work with colleagues across the system on critically important matters such as business development, technology enhancements, and clinical standardization and integration efforts, and cost and quality improvement throughout our network. The CMO is also a key participant in BIDCO’s negotiations for major managed care/global payment contracts.

The CMO leads a team of Medical Directors and has direct responsibility for the departments of Care Management, Pharmacy, Quality, and Population Health. The CMO also develops and provides leadership to all disease management initiatives, serves as chair of the PCP Advisory Committee, and is the organization’s medical liaison to internal and external committees and agencies.

The CMO monitors emerging models in health care delivery, and identifies and defines new and innovative strategies to achieve business goals and objectives. This position also assists with analytics and development of quality measures for new payment models (value based/risk based payment structures).
