Job Details

We are redefining the role of academia in healthcare delivery innovation and need a leader who is ready to make Austin the model for the next century.

The Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as the inaugural Associate Chair of Education for the Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care. As part of The University of Texas at Austin, one of the nation’s leading research universities, the Dell Medical School is pursuing innovative strategies to redesign healthcare delivery and achieve excellence in healthcare research and education. It will be the first medical school established in nearly five decades by a member of the Association of American Universities, and is the product of an extraordinary commitment of resources, both public and private, intended to ensure its growth and success. In addition, it has formed new partnerships with community and regional healthcare organizations to create new models for health promotion and healthcare delivery for the community’s underserved population. The Associate Chair of Education will join a world-class, visionary leadership team that is committed to redesigning academic medicine and healthcare delivery from its foundations, launching new models of education and training, and pursuing excellence in healthcare research and innovation.

The Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care encompasses Anesthesia, Cardiovascular Surgery, Emergency Medicine, ENT, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Plastic Surgery, Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and Urology. The Associate Chair of Education will be an integral part of building the department into a nationally-recognized center for educating and training the next generation of surgeons in innovative, value-based care delivery.

This is an exciting and unique opportunity to be a contributing member towards building a world-class Department from the ground up. We are seeking candidates with a substantial record of leadership and achievement in academic medicine, and significant experience with educational and training programs in surgery. Applicants for this position should possess a medical doctrate or doctor of osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school, be board certified in their respective specialty and subspecialty (if applicable), eligible for appointment as tenure-track faculty, eligible for a Texas medical license, and have experience with value-based care delivery and integrated practice models. Candidates that are not clinicians, but who possess a PhD, along with sufficient experience in surgical education, as well as value-based care delivery and integrated practice models are also encouraged to apply.

The University of Texas at Austin values diversity and is committed to Equal Opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any other status protected by law. This position is security sensitive; conviction verification will be conducted on applicant selected.
