Dartmouth invites applications for the Paul Batalden Chair, an endowed Professorship at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice. The Batalden Professor will lead efforts at Dartmouth to measurably improve health and health care at a patient, system, and population level using scientific methods. The holder of the position will also help implement novel interventions and mentor providers in leading quality improvement throughout the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health System, as well as lead Dartmouth’s educational programs in health care improvement.

Candidates must have an MD, PhD, or equivalent, strong academic credentials, and evidence of national leadership in health and health care quality improvement. Candidates with a record of success in highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary research environments, extramural research support, and a commitment to translating insights into policy or practice will be highly preferred. The holder of the chair will have a primary appointment at the Geisel School of Medicine within The Dartmouth Institute, with the possibility for a secondary appointment in one of numerous departments or professional schools at Dartmouth.

This chair is named for Paul Batalden, MD, who was a cofounder of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and an early leader, with John E. Wennberg, MD, of The Dartmouth Institute. Recently named one of three National Centers of Excellence to study health care delivery, the Institute is a leader in the study and transformation of the health care sector.

Dartmouth consistently ranks among the country’s greatest academic institutions. Home to a celebrated liberal arts curriculum and pioneering professional schools, Dartmouth has forged a singular identity, combining its deep commitment to outstanding undergraduate liberal arts and graduate education with distinguished research and scholarship in Arts & Sciences and three leading professional schools: Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, and Tuck School of Business.

Dartmouth College is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer with a strong commitment to diversity. In that spirit, we encourage applications from a broad spectrum of people, including women, persons of color, persons with disabilities, veterans, or any other legally protected group.
