Chairman, Liver and Small Bowel Transplantation and Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Surgery

The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre (General Organization) (KFSH&RC-Gen Org) is a tertiary care, state-of-the-art Hospital situated in the cities of Riyadh and Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and accredited by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA). Our combined bed capacity of 1,452 is dispersed over three locations. KFSH&RC is the national referral of sub-specialties for Oncology, Organ Transplantation, Cardiovascular Diseases, Neurosciences, and Genetic Diseases with postgraduate education programs that support both Residency and Fellowship Training. Expansion projects are planned, including the development of a Pediatric Care Hospital, a dedicated Oncology & Liver Centre, and a Biotechnology Centre.

We are currently searching for a Chairman for the Department of Liver and Small Bowel Transplantation. The chairman is responsible for the overall management of the department to provide, support, and facilitate an interdisciplinary delivery of patient-focused care under the directive of the Director, Organ Transplant Center. This includes promoting and conducting significant research, undergraduate and post graduate educational programs in line with the vision and mission of the OTC and the KFSH&RC. The Department of Liver and Small Bowel Transplantation encompasses three clinical sections; Adult Transplant Hepatology, Pediatric Transplant Hepatology & Liver Transplant and Hepatobiliary- Pancreatic Surgery.

The Organ Transplant Center at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center, Riyadh Saudi Arabia is a leading organ transplantation center in the Middle East. The center boasts a unique structure where surgeons, pediatricians, physicians, and transplant clinical coordinators are working together in one division to provide world class pre and post-transplant care to patients with organ failure. We performed 685 kidney transplants, 490 liver transplants (i.e.182 pediatric transplants), and 65 lung transplants in the last 4.5 years (2011 to June 2015). We also implement the latest innovative surgical and medical technique (i.e. ABO incompatible transplantation as well as fully laparoscopic living donor hepatectomy).

It provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive, timely, and cost effective medical care. It is committed to support other services by providing quality medical consultation and devoting its resources to planning, quality improvement, and control of infection in the Hospital. It also provides competitive medical and subspecialty training and education. Research activities in areas of disease, pathology, management, and prevention are part of its pledge to the community.

Qualified candidates must have graduated from an accredited medical school, completed required period of training, specialty and subspecialty with Board Certification and membership or fellowship status in United Kingdom or Canada, or equivalent. Subspecialty training and certification (if applicable) are required. Chairman should have post training (residency and fellowship, if applicable, i.e. after board certification or equivalent); independent clinical experience of at least (10) years and must have teaching and research accomplishments. Publications records must be original articles in peer-reviewed journals and number of publications should be a minimum of 10. Administrative experience as Chairman/Deputy Chairman/Head of Section/Head of Medical Service or similar position should be a minimum of (5) years.
