The Department of Veterans Affairs NY Harbor Healthcare System is seeking a full-time academic physician for its Campus in Brooklyn, New York, to become the Chief of the Rheumatology Section. Applicants must have outstanding clinical, teaching, and interpersonal skills. Responsibilities will include the provision of comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for patients with rheumatologic disorders; performance of bedside musculoskeletal ultrasound; and supervision of Rheumatology fellows, Internal Medicine residents, and medical students. The Section Chief will be expected to engage in clinical research projects already underway, and to develop new initiatives. The Brooklyn Campus of NYHHS is a major teaching affiliate of State University of New York Downstate Medical Center, and the successful candidate will be appointed at SUNY Downstate at an academic level commensurate his or her experience. The candidate must have completed fellowship training in Rheumatology, and be board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. He/she must have a full, unrestricted medical license in any state.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
