The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center (SKCCC) at Johns Hopkins University invites inquiries, applications, and nominations for the Director of the National Capital Region. The SKCCC, a National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated, comprehensive cancer center located in Baltimore, Maryland, provides clinical care to more than 11,000 newly diagnosed cancer patients annually at all of its sites and hosts a large, nationally recognized, accredited oncology fellowship program. The SKCCC is preeminent in research with over $200 million of external funding.

The SKCCC National Capital Region (NCR) operates at several sites throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia offering cancer care, teaching, and research. The SKCCC NCR has experienced extraordinary success over the past five years and has a robust and growing clinical research program. Currently, SKCCC NCR services are located at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, DC, Suburban Hospital in Montgomery County, and at a free-standing ambulatory site. A proton therapy center is under construction at the Sibley site and will open in 2019.

The Director, NCR will lead the further development of the SKCCC's programming in the region to include the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Prince George’s County, and northern Virginia. The Director, NCR will lead the next phase of growth including multidisciplinary clinical services, faculty recruitment for key integrative cancer programming, expansion of the clinical and translational research enterprise, philanthropy, and marketing to enhance branding and reputation. 

Candidates must possess an MD, or MD/PhD, or equivalent degree with a sustained record of peer reviewed funding, preferably by the NCI. The successful candidate will demonstrate progressive leadership experience, ideally gained within an academic medical center, and a history of building integrated, successful multidisciplinary cancer programs. Candidates should have a strong business acumen and an understanding of what it takes to build market share and acquire research funding in a competitive environment.
