The Division of Primary Care and Population Health in the Department of Medicine at Stanford University is seeking a health service researcher with clinical or public health training to fill a position as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the Medical Center Line, the University Tenure Line or the Non-Tenure Line - Research. The position entails up to 100% research or a combination of research and some clinical practice, depending on the qualifications of the successful applicant. Successful applicants must have a clinical or public health degree (e.g., MD, DO, RN/PhD, DNP, DNS, DrPH, or other relevant doctoral degree) with strong theoretical grounding and empirical skills, quantitative and/or qualitative research skills. For physician-scientists, candidates with formal research training (e.g., MPH, research fellowship) are preferred. We are seeking dynamic, creative individuals to bring intellectual leadership and rigorous scholarship to our existing health services research activities. Successful and qualified candidates will exhibit accomplishment in research that applies theory and evidence to understand and address problems in health and health care. They will also be expected to contribute to our mission through education and teaching, including training and mentoring of post-doctoral fellows and other trainees in graduate programs associated with the Stanford University School of Medicine.

The research activities of the Division of Primary Care and Population Health are diverse. Current areas include health policy, quality of care, delivery system innovation, pain and symptoms measurement and management, goals of care communication, global health, appropriate use of medications, health informatics and other applications of technology and bioinformatics, organization science, implementation science, health economics, palliative care, geriatrics, and biomedical ethics.

The predominant criteria for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. The major criteria for appointment in the Medical Center Line is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fill. The major criterion for appointment for faculty in the Non-tenure Line (Research) is evidence of high-level performance as a researcher for whose special knowledge a programmatic need exists. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate should have research qualifications. If some clinical practice is desired in addition to research, the successful candidate should have clinical qualifications, exemplified board certification or board eligibility in internal medicine, family practice, or a related subspecialty (e.g., palliative medicine, geriatric) or other clinical professions (e.g. social work, psychology, or nursing). They should have an advanced degree or fellowship in health services research, related field, or equivalent, and a growing track record of publication and funding commensurate with experience.
