Southern Illinois University School of Medicine Department of Surgery is seeking an experienced and accomplished leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Orthopedic  Surgery.  This position reports to the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and requires board certification in Orthopedics, an academic record of accomplishment, commitment to education and research, and demonstrated administrative and leadership abilities.

The Department of Surgery and Division of Orthopedic Surgery are committed to the mission of the School of Medicine to assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health care needs through education, patient care, research, and service to the community.  Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is located in Springfield, Illinois, a historic Midwestern city of 120,000 that serves over 2 million people.  Founded in 1970, SIU has received national and international recognition for innovation in medical education and offers a welcoming environment for dedicated clinicians who love to teach. Memorial Medical Center and St. John’s Hospital, both 500-bed community hospitals, serve the community and are teaching sites for SIU SOM. In May 2015, Memorial Medical Center opened the new Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, expanding SIU’s vision to be a national leader for excellence in healthcare learning through skills training and simulation labs.

Qualifications: Must have a MD or DO degree and be board certified by the American Board of Orthopedics. Fellowship training preferred. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois.  Demonstrated leadership in teaching, scholarship, and development of clinical programs. A record of innovative and effective administration and fiscal leadership. Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills are essential. Established credentials in research are necessary for appointment at the Full Professor level.
