This position is being filled under the Expedited Hiring Authority for Shortage Category and/or Critical Need Health Care Occupations.

About the Position:

This position is located at US Army Medical Department, Preventative Medicine Service, Audiology Branch, Fort Meade, MD.

Kimbrough Ambulatory Care is the headquarters of the U.S. Army Medical Department Activity (MEDDAC), Fort George G. Meade, which includes a number of U.S. Army health clinics, occupational health clinics, telemedicine, behavioral health, allergen extract lab, drug testing labs and environmental health clinics at several other installations in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and District of Columbia.

Duties

As an Audiologist, you will:

  • Select appropriate tests for evaluation of hearing for patients with severe hearing loss
  • Provide auditory electrophysiological test to identify central nervous system or brainstem pathologies and vestibular tests to include posturography, rotary chair, and electronystagmography (ENG)
  • Independently counsel patients and families regarding the diagnosis and recommendations for necessary treatment
  • Select appropriate treatment protocols to include: communications strategies, hearing aids (conventual, programmable and digital technology), assistive listening devices and cochlear implant.

Degree: Successful completion of at least a master's degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice.

Experience required: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: evaluating audiology patients; selecting or fitting assistive listening devices; and instructing or educating on audiology treatment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

License/Certification: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted audiology license, registration, or certification from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).  Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
