Geisinger is seeking a board certified, Emergency Medicine (EM) trained physician to lead its brand-new EM Residency Program, based at Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

 

Each year, a total of seven EM residents will be trained at GWV under the supervision and direction of the EM Residency Program Director. The EM Residency Program Director will be responsible for overseeing the educational development and operations of the residency program as well as maintaining an active clinical presence in GWV’s Emergency Department (ED) - 0.5 clinical and 0.5 administrative. 

Geisinger Wyoming Valley, a designated level II trauma center, has a total of 274 licensed beds and houses the busiest ED in the health system, caring for over 65,000 patients per year.  The ED includes 55 patient care areas, a three-bed self-contained trauma unit and a Rapid Evaluation Unit for vertical level threes. The hospital also is a designated level I Life Net receiving center for acute STEMIs and has a level I heart attack program.

 

Compassionate professionals – including some of the region’s most highly trained specialists and subspecialists (with all specialties and subspecialties represented) – and advanced technology, make GWV a destination for those with the most complex medical concerns and emergencies. GWV is home to the Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, Janet Wise Children’s Hospital pediatric unit and level II NICU (which will soon transition to level III), as well as our Primary Stroke Center which is approaching comprehensive stroke center designation.

 

Geisinger has a very active EMS program which includes our very busy Life Flight team. Our Life Flight program averages 2,500 flights per year with nine state-of-the-art helicopters and six bases - the closest to GWV is only five minutes away at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

 

Requirements include:

    American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine (AOBEM) certification,5 years of Emergency Medicine experience preferred, with minimum of 3 years of core faculty experience at an academic institution,Ongoing involvement in scholarly activity, including peer-reviewed publications,Proven clinical and administrative skills, preferably in a residency,A demonstrated ability to speak and teach on clinical matters related to Emergency Medicine,
  • And prior experience working with an integrated electronic medical record system.
This will be Geisinger’s second EM residency program in the system.
