Denver Health, in collaboration with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, is seeking a clinically skilled and experienced leader, educator, manager, and communicator for the position of Director of Service for Radiology at Denver Health. The Director of Service (DOS) will have oversight of all care delivered by the Department of Radiology at Denver Health and will provide overall leadership.  The DOS will be responsible for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance, and medical education for the department. 

Denver Health is affiliated with the University of Colorado, School of Medicine (CU-SOM), and Denver Health faculty have full-time academic appointments.  The DOS has primary responsibility for all aspects of the scholarly and educational programs at the Denver Health Medical Center and collaborates with CU-SOM in meeting our joint missions. The new DOS must have a passion for providing outstanding care to the underserved, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, the leadership to engage staff at all levels, and an enduring commitment to training the next generation of physicians.

The Organization

Denver Health (http://www.denverhealth.org/) is nationally recognized for its mission and the delivery of a broad spectrum of services for the screening, diagnosis of acute/chronic diseases as well as emergent/trauma injuries.  Founded on the banks of Cherry Creek, Denver Health was established in 1860 and reflects the historical mission of our nation’s public safety net hospitals to serve the community irrespective of their ability to pay for services.  This healthcare system has been caring for the people of Denver and the Rocky Mountain Region ever since.  As Colorado’s primary safety net institution, Denver Health has provided billions of dollars in uncompensated care.  Nationally, Denver Health is held up as a model for other safety net institutions as an integrated, efficient, high-quality healthcare system.

In 2020, Denver Health is scheduled to open a Comprehensive Outpatient Medical Center.  This state-of-the-art patient-centered medical complex will be a significant expansion on Denver Health’s main campus.  The Center will also provide an expansion of outpatient radiology services, including –PET-CT, CT,  two new MRI units (one 3T), ultrasound, radiography, fluoroscopy, bone densitometry, and a new breast imaging center located adjacent to the breast surgery clinic.

Position Summary

The Director of Service (DOS) for Radiology at Denver Health will be a senior faculty member, have a reputation of excellence in clinical care, teaching, mentoring, and scholarship. He/she will have responsibility for strategic planning, clinical services, professional performance, business performance, regulatory compliance, medical education, physician practice, and departmental culture.  The DOS will have oversight of all care delivered in the Department of Radiology at Denver Health, including the following services: Bone Densitometry (DXA), Breast Imaging - Computed Tomography (CT), Diagnostic Radiology, Interventional Radiology (IR), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, and Ultrasound (US). The DOS will provide overall strategic leadership of Radiologists, the Administrative Director of Radiology, and all support staff who serve patients through radiologic services, including contracted service providers. 

Reporting Relationships

The DOS will report to the Chief Medical Officer, Denver Health.  He/she will have a matrixed reporting relationship to the Chair of Radiology at the CU-SOM exclusively for academic roles and responsibilities.

  • Administrative Assistant to the DOS

Candidate Qualifications

Education/Academic Credentials

  • Doctor of Medicine from an accredited school of medicine; Board Certification in radiology discipline and eligibility for licensure in Colorado are required.
  • Academic credentials ideally qualified to be appointed to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of Radiology, have a demonstrated local and national- reputation of excellence in scholarship, teaching/mentoring, and clinical care.

Experience

  • Demonstrated success within an academic radiology department. A track record of delivering strong results in mission-driven organizations, –preferably those serving vulnerable and Medicaid populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve outcomes and take appropriate business risks to achieve goals.
  • A history of academic excellence in education and scholarly work.

Preferred Professional Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership achievement in a busy high-performing department.
  • A strong record as a respected radiologist.
  • Experience in increasing service excellence in a radiology department.
