The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking a full-time Clinical Track position at the Instructor or higher level is available within the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System (Toledo Community Based Outpatient Clinic) for a psychiatrist with expertise and experience in the area of serious mental illness and dual diagnosis evaluation and treatment. The successful candidate will also qualify for a faculty appointment at the University of Michigan, Department of Psychiatry by the University of Michigan Medical School.
Core responsibilities include providing comprehensive psychiatric medical care (comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and treatment planning, pharmacological interventions including Suboxone therapy and crisis management/on call services) for a panel of serious mentally ill and dually diagnosed patients in the Toledo Community Based Outpatient Clinic in the context of a well-developed multidisciplinary team model of care; supervision of trainees (residents/fellows); contributing to the academic initiatives within the service as well as potentially collaborating on clinical research program(s) in related areas.
Given the academic affiliations with both University of Michigan and University of Toledo Medical Schools and Residency Programs, the position provides for consistent contact with residents, fellows, and medical students ensuring a vibrant academic environment. Teaching is expected and supported and research collaborations are encouraged but not required.
The VA Ann Arbor Mental Health Service is closely affiliated with the University of Michigan, Department of Psychiatry, and is an active part of the Mental Health Service Line in the Veterans Integrated Service Network serving four Midwestern states (VISN 11). The VA Ann Arbor Mental Health faculty includes a diverse group of active clinicians and clinical researchers within the Department of Psychiatry and opportunities for collaboration exist across departments in the University of Michigan Medical School and University of Toledo Medical School.
Work Schedule: Full time VA effort (8/8ths) with faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Michigan.
Candidates should be board eligible or certified (preferred) in Psychiatry, have strong clinical skills, demonstrate the ability to provide leadership to an interdisciplinary team of mental health care providers and work collaboratively with other clinicians, a proven record of working with trainees, and qualify for an appointment to the University of Michigan Medical School faculty as Clinical Track Instructor in Psychiatry or higher. Faculty appointment in the University of Michigan Medical School requires national academic recognition with demonstrated skills in clinical care, teaching, and administration.
