REGIONAL DEPARTMENT CHAIR ANESTHESIOLOGY INSTITUTE

Cleveland Clinic, one of the world's most distinguished academic medical centers announces a search for the Department Chair of Regional Anesthesiology within the Anesthesiology Institute. This Department provides perioperative anesthesia care to over 70,000 patients annually undergoing surgical procedures at 8 Regional Hospitals and 8 Ambulatory Surgery Centers. The practice is comprised of 71 staff anesthesiologists and 138 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists/Certified Anesthesiology Assistants who staff operating rooms and non-operating room locations, including OB, endoscopy, and interventional radiology suites throughout northeast Ohio. The regional practice has a large geographical footprint with staffing levels adjusted daily based upon the clinical needs of each hospital and surgery center. The Regional Anesthesiology Practice also includes 13 Pre-Anesthesia Consultation Clinics that service over 50,000 patients annually with pre-anesthetic consultation to optimize patients prior to their surgical procedures.

The Department has its own free-standing residency program based at South Pointe Hospital, and has considerable interaction with the residency training program based at the Main Campus with overlap of clinical subspecialty experiences not offered at South Pointe Hospital. Our own school of nurse anesthesia and the Case University anesthesiology assistant training program utilize our Regional Hospitals for their clinical rotations. The large number and complexity of operative procedures performed throughout the Cleveland Clinic provide all of our residents and trainees with abundant experience in clinical anesthesia and all subspecialties.

Cleveland Clinic's Anesthesiology Institute (AI) unites all specialists in cardiothoracic anesthesia, critical care, pain management, general anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, the regional practice, outcomes research, and graduate medical education within one fully integrated model of care. The mission of the Anesthesiology Institute is to be a recognized leader in perioperative care through education, research, and innovation within an environment that creates a safe, effective, efficient, and best possible experience for our patients and caregivers.

The ideal candidate for Chair of the Regional Anesthesiology Department should have leadership experience, a reputation for clinical excellence, understand the business aspects of an anesthesia practice, and have experience working within a variety of practice settings. The Chair will have ultimate responsibility for the clinical, educational, research and financial success of the department. A faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with experience is available at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
