Job Details

Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute (HHC CI) is recruiting a medical oncologist with specialty interest in breast oncology to join us at Hartford Hospital, an 865-bed tertiary care academic medical center. The Cancer Institute leads oncology program development, clinical trials, quality improvement, prevention, and survivorship across HHC. HHC is a healthcare system serving 1 million patients with 6,000 annual analytic cases cared for by our 26 medical oncologists employed in the HHC Medical Group. HHC is the leading healthcare provider by market share for breast cancer patients in Connecticut.

The Cancer Institute is the charter member of the Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Alliance whose mission is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge from academic medical centers to community healthcare delivery systems. This includes implementation of MSK studies at our multiple ambulatory cancer clinics as well as at our new Phase I unit located at Hartford Hospital. The MSK Cancer Alliance offers opportunities for engaging in implementation science to re-engineer healthcare in a value-based economy, develop new standards of care, and utilize genomic data in patient care. Advanced oncology informatics architecture supports data analytic projects in collaboration with the MIT Sloan School of Management.

Our faculty includes fellowship-trained breast surgeons, medical oncologists with breast specialization, and dedicated administrative and physician leadership. A multi-disciplinary disease management team provides governance for the breast program and interacts with the MSK breast medicine service. The breast program includes risk assessment and surveillance, cardio-oncology, genetic counseling, weekly breast cancer case conferences, and breast nurse navigation. There is an active community outreach program including digital mobile mammography and participation in the Connecticut Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

The Cancer Institute is an accredited Commission on Cancer Network site, has QOPI certified practice sites and is implementing an advanced oncology medical home model that incorporates telemedicine. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, compassionate medical oncologist specializing in breast oncology who is interested in joining a team of clinicians and administrators building a new model for cancer care delivery and clinical research. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of academic accomplishment within breast medical oncology and a commitment to clinical trials participation and quality improvement.
