Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Duke Children's Hospital
The Duke Department of Pediatrics is recruiting faculty at all levels to join our growing Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
We welcome physician-educators or physician-researchers. Responsibilities will include patient care and education of pediatric and emergency medicine residents, medical students, nurse practitioner students and physician assistant students. Protected time for other academic activities will be determined based upon interest and prior productivity. Physician-researchers will have reduced patient care and education responsibilities that will allow them to pursue a well-defined research agenda. Protected time for research or other academic activities will be negotiated based upon interests, research training and prior productivity. All PEM faculty have a large amount of contact time with trainees and medical students. In the course of providing state-of-the-art clinical care, we have received our Department's Division Teaching Award 6 of the past 8 years. We welcome faculty who love caring for kids and sharing that expertise and passion with learners at all levels.
The Pediatric Emergency Department is an 18-bed, dedicated unit within the Duke Emergency Department. Duke is a Level 1 Trauma Center. All pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties are immediately available. We have an excellent working relationship with our Emergency Medicine colleagues. Opportunities for leadership exist in virtually all aspects of pediatric emergency medicine (e.g., ultrasound, EMS, disaster management, trauma, toxicology, quality improvement, patient safety, global health, etc.)
The Department of Pediatrics at Duke has a long history of excellence in patient care, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and clinical, laboratory and health services research. Duke Children's Hospital is ranked among the nation's finest in the 2017-18 U.S. News & World Report's Best Children's Hospitals rankings in all ten specialties. The Department currently train 75 residents and 60 subspecialty fellows. The Department of Pediatrics is ranked second nationally on the list of NIH funding for pediatric clinical science departments. The successful candidate will benefit from the resources and stimulating, collaborative environment within the School of Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics, the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Surgery, and the many other nationally recognized Departments across the Duke campus.
