We are looking for a Professor of Clinical Research in Angiology.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating clinical research activites related to prevention and individualized patient treatment in peripheral vascular diseases. The position covers the integration of existing large patient databases and biobank sampling structures within the Clinic for Angiology with well-established omics plattforms and basic research structures of the Department of Biomedical Research (DBMR) at the University Hospital Bern.

Applicants are expected to have a clinical degree in medicine as well as a qualification in Angiology or in Internal Medicine with a focus on peripheral vascular disease. We are looking for candidates with an independent academic track record in the field of clinical Angiology in parallel with a robust understanding for basic research methodologies, particularly for modern "omics" approaches.

The concept of this position is not to build up an independent basic research laboratory, but rather to retro-translate research questions from clinics regarding peripheral vascular atherosclerosis back to the bench (e.g. to combine phenotyping of patients with genetic, metabolic, or transcriptomic information aiming towards individualized patient treatment). As a consequence, candidates should have a robust clinical understanding of peripheral atherosclerotic disease and novel imaging methods as well as experience in basic research (applied, "omics" technologies). Experience in leading large multicenter clinical research projects including randomized controlled trials is particularly welcome. A profound understanding of bioinformatics and biostatistics would also be an asset.

We are looking for a highly collaborative personality ("team player") who enjoys interactions of applied basic research and clinicial peripheral vascular medicine and seeks collaborations with other research groups in the field.

Depending on his or her qualifactions and experience, the successful applicant will be appointed at a level ranging from Assistant Professor tenue track (AssP TT) to Full Professor (Extraordinariat).

If you are looking for an exciting position in a highly motivated, interdisciplinary team, please send your CV with publication list, details of current grants and other funding, and one copy each of your five most relevant publications as electronic documents to The Dean's Office. The University of Bern is a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration of Research Assessment (DORA).

With a view towards increasing the proportion of female professors, the University of Bern specifically encourages female candidates to apply. Job sharing is possible and supported.

Applications are to be sent electronically until DATE to the Dean's Office (bewerbungen@meddek.unibe.ch).

Information on the required documents can be found under: http://www.medizin.unibe.ch/unibe/portal/fak_medizin/content/e17207/e17208/e525444/e527031/pane527037/e527049/Factsheet_Application_Documents_01_2015_ger.pdf
