The Lead Physician – Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services – Yale New Haven Health - Bridgeport, CT

The Lead Physician for Occupational Health services provides clinical oversight for all clinical services offered through Occupational Medicine and Wellness Services (OMWS) in one or more delivery networks of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS). This physician reports to the Chief Medical Officer, Northeast Medical Group and works with her/him and the OMWS executive team to assure high quality clinical care, proper staffing, patient flow, and administrative oversight of the occupational clinics in New Haven. If the Lead Physician performs well, an opportunity exists for promotion to a Medical Director level.

Responsibilities
  • 1. In partnership with the Chief Medical Director, supervises all clinicians in the department including physicians, PAs, APRNs, and radiological technicians.
    • 1.1 Performs periodic evaluations of all clinicians in the department following all Yale New Haven Health System, Northeast Medical Group (NEMG) and YNHHS Hospital guidelines
  • 2. In partnership with the Chief Medical Director, provides clinical administration to the OMWS and YNHHS delivery networks
    • 2.1 Works with the OMWS executive team and YNHHS delivery network site leads to attain the most efficient and appropriate care
  • 3. Services specific to the YNHHS Hospitals:
    • 3.1 Works with the Workers' Compensation department with the overall goal of providing efficient and effective clinical care and a safe and timely return to work for injured workers.
  • 4. In partnership with the Chief Medical Director, provides services to Client Companies
    • 4.1 Advise or provide consult to human resources or management teams on topics or employee issues as appropriate
  • 5. Provision of direct patient care
    • 5.1 Provide direct occupational injury and illness care at any of the OMWS YNHHS delivery network sites
  • 6. Serve as an active member of the medical director's team of OMWS
    • 6.1 Attend medical directors meeting and represent the needs of the YNHHS delivery networks

Qualifications

EDUCATION

The Lead Occupational Health Physician holds a degree of MD or DO from an accredited medical school, has completed appropriate residency training in one of the following: internal medicine, emergency medicine family medicine and is board certified in Occupational Medicine. He or she will also obtain any required certifications as may be necessary or appropriate to to perform the Medical Director duties (ie Medical Review Officer; Federal Motor Safety Carrier Association medical certification)

EXPERIENCE

The Lead Occupational Health Physician will have at least 2-3 years of clinical experience in occupational medicine, hold an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Connecticut and Rhode Island and a Federal and State license to. He/she will remain fully credentialed by the medical staff of the YNHHS Hospitals. He or she will also demonstrate experience in managing other clinicians (MDs, DOs, PAs and or Nurse Practitioners). Experience providing consultations to large companies would be a plus.

LICENSURE

The Lead Occupational Health Physician will achieve within 2 years appropriate board certification and maintain an active license to practice medicine in the State of CT and will hold an unrestricted Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Controlled Substances Registration Certificate and a State of Connecticut and Rhode Island Controlled Substance Registration for Practitioners. He or she will maintain medical staff credentialing with the YNHHS delivery network hospitals in the appropriate section.

SPECIAL SKILLS

The Lead Occupational Health Physician will have clinical skills commensurate with this position and will have the clinical skills to care for workers' medical needs. He/she will also have excellent communication skills both written and verbal in order to interact with workers, company executives and hospital senior management. The Lead Physician will also provide, in partnership with the Chief Medical Director, consulting services to local and national companies as required. It is also expected that the Lead Physician will support marketing efforts and visit client companies at their work site frequently.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Works in any one of the OMWS YNHHS delivery network clinics during all business hours. Must take rotational responsibilities on occasion for evening hours. Must be willing and able to receive occasional phone calls or other means of communications on during weekends and weekends.
