PROFESSOR AND HEAD OF DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS

Monash University and Monash Health have a joint vision to develop Paediatrics as an academic strength, advancing children’s health through world-leading research and education.

Located in the new Monash Children’s Hospital (a dedicated 230-bed state-of-the-art facility) and part of the Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP), the Department of Paediatrics is a vital part of Monash University’s Faculty of Medicine Nursing and Health Sciences. Co-location of the new Monash Children’s hospital at the MHTP provides our academics, students, bench researchers, and clinician-scientists unparalleled access to patients, research facilities, and collaborative opportunities, and signifies our intention for this Department to grow into a centre of international renown alongside Monash’s existing major research strengths. Existing strengths include the Ritchie Centre - the largest perinatal research centre in Australia - and a newly appointed chair in Paediatric Immunology.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Professor and Head of Department of Paediatrics will be responsible for leadership and ongoing strategic development of all Paediatric academic research and teaching at Monash University. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead, foster and grow excellence in academic paediatrics at Australia’s largest university. The role will also provide clinical services at Monash Health, consistent with both institutions’ strategic plans to link academic and clinical practice.

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished international record in paediatrics encompassing research, clinical practice, and education. Candidates will have current registration with AHPRA in paediatrics (or be eligible for registration) and have a PhD or the equivalent though research achievement. A significant track record of research and research leadership is a prerequisite, and demonstrated expertise in education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is also required.

The professorial appointment will be a continuing appointment in the Department of Paediatrics and for a period of five years will include:

• the role of Head of Department (with opportunity for renewal) and;
• the role of Paediatrician at Monash Health (with opportunity for renewal).

Start-up research funding may be available to the successful candidate to assist in the transfer of existing research to Monash or to establish research at Monash University.
