Rush University (Rush or University) seeks an experienced, visionary, and inspirational leader to serve as its President. As Rush approaches its 50th anniversary in 2022, the President will build upon the distinguished legacy of success at Rush and continue its growth in prominence and impact as one of the premier universities advancing health sciences education, research, and high quality, equitable care.

This is an opportune moment for Rush. To date, the President of Rush University has also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Rush University Medical Center (RUMC). The significant growth of the University over the last decade coupled with the addition of a new hospital and the establishment in 2017 of a thriving health system, has elevated the need for a position that is solely focused on advancing a cutting edge strategy for the University. As one of a small number of not-for-profit universities that is dedicated entirely to health care, its focus, size, and nimbleness allow Rush to be a distinctively innovative leader in the health sciences. Importantly, unlike most academic medical centers, Rush has an integrated governance and management structure with a single board over all mission components.

Rush is a student-centric university that attracts diverse and outstanding students, staff, and faculty, and its programs are internationally recognized for their quality. Long a leader in engaged learning, Rush continues to be a model for inventive health care education, adding flipped classrooms, simulations, online courses and distance programs, and non-degree educational offerings to its traditional degree programs. In addition, the growth of the health system has provided broader opportunities for clinical training sites, clinical research, and community outreach for the University. Its distinguished faculty is incredibly committed to the mission and includes 93 endowed faculty chairs. Rush has followed a targeted and strategic plan to create research programs that draw on the strengths of its faculty and clinical enterprise.

Reporting to the Board of Governors, the President provides visionary and strategic leadership to set the direction for the University and is also directly accountable for all operations. The President also serves as an officer of the Rush System Board of Trustees, and as such will have a reporting relationship to the System CEO. The President has broad responsibilities for all aspects of the academic, student, financial, administrative, and external engagement activities of the University. This includes oversight and responsibility for the success of Rush's four academic colleges: the College of Allied Health Sciences, the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, and the Graduate College.

The next President will bring broad intellectual curiosity; an inclusive, collaborative leadership style; and a natural inclination toward community engagement – both on- and off-campus. The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited college or university; a recognized health sciences discipline is strongly preferred. S/he will bring demonstrated experience in an executive leadership capacity in a health sciences organization, higher education or related setting. Health care or health sciences experience preferred.
