HOMI BHABHA CANCER HOSPITAL & RESEARCH CENTRE (TMC)

Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) comprises the Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH), the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research, and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), and other centres across India (Vishakhapatnam, Sangrur, Mohali, Guwahati, Varanasi). The Centre is engaged in research, education, and comprehensive care of cancer patients. TMC has a strong outreach programme in areas of cancer awareness and early detection and has linkages with 130 cancer hospitals including those in remote and rural areas under a program called the National Cancer Grid.

We are looking for two dynamic clinician scientists to lead the two upcoming Centres: The Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre at Mullanpur, Punjab (outskirts of Chandigarh) and The Cancer Hospital at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Both centres have been modelled on the pattern of the iconic TMC, Mumbai. Each of these Centres will serve as a hub for various planned spokes in Punjab and UP delivering cancer care in a seamless manner. Each Centre is expected to register and care for over 10,000 new cancer patients annually. Both Centres will have state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and therapy. The Centre’s will also have infrastructure and will emphasize basic, clinical, translational, and epidemiological research.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Director HBCHRC [(Mullanpur, Punjab, and Varanasi, (UP)] will chalk out a roadmap for cancer care delivery, translational research, and training to create human resources, for Northern India. He/she will be a member of the Collegium of Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) and will report to Director TMC.

The Director will actively promote TMC’s multidisciplinary approach to patient care and act as a local, regional, and national leader in innovative and collaborative models of care. The Director will create and sustain a culture of patient centeredness emphasizing quality, safety, and efficiency. The candidate is expected to provide leadership to the Centre in a full-time capacity.

Prescribed Qualifications:

Indian Nationals or PIO with high academic credentials (post-graduate degree in surgical, radiation, or medical oncology, or onco-pathology or doctoral qualification in public health), outstanding leadership qualities, and proven managerial experience in healthcare would be appropriate candidates for this position. The candidate should possess a postgraduate medical degree (radiation, surgical, or medical oncology) from a recognized University or a recognized post-graduate degree in Oncology from USA/EU/other parts of the world. A PhD will be a desirable additional qualification. Around 15 years of experience, after finishing residency, as attached or a full-time professional in the field of cancer treatment and related research out of which minimum five years should have been as Head of the Department or project of national importance for cancer. A track record of high quality publications in peer reviewed journals is mandatory. The candidate should have been involved in conceptualization and/or execution of  large clinical trials or translational research program or public health intervention/study.

Terms and Emoluments:

  1. Salary in Level-14 of the Pay Matrix plus allowances and other benefits as applicable as per rules of TMC (Government of India rules and pay matrix as followed in TMC). In addition to salary, Share in Hospital Income will be paid as per the existing scheme of TMC.
  2. The terms and conditions will be in accordance with the bye-laws and service rules of TMC.
