Position Details:

The University of Washington Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nutrition, Department of Medicine is seeking an individual at the rank of Assistant (0113), Associate (0112), Full (0111), Research Assistant (0143), Research Associate (0142), or Research (0141) Professor rank, commensurate with qualifications, to serve as the Associate Director of the Northwest Lipid Metabolism and Diabetes Research Laboratories (NWLR). This is a full-time, 12-month, multi-year appointment, without tenure due to funding. This large laboratory facility, in addition to research activities, serves as a central laboratory and storage facility for a variety of NIH-funded, multi-center clinical trials, as well as for investigator-initiated or industry-sponsored studies. The Associate Director will be responsible to work closely with the NWLR Director and the Laboratory Technical Manager in the high-level administrative management of the laboratory. Additionally, this individual is expected to participate in the scientific and organizational activities related to the clinical trials supported by the laboratory, to be a member of writing groups, and to submit ancillary study proposals. The selected candidate will have an exciting opportunity to experience working with large consortia. This position also offers a chance to gain a better understanding of laboratory support in clinical trials and, multi-center trials. This position should be especially attractive to someone interested in achieving a record of substantial research productivity, in lipid metabolism and/or diabetes, and experiencing research, administration, and teaching in an academic department. Finally, the selected candidate will thrive at the challenge of success in research funding.

Candidates must have either an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD degree (or foreign equivalent). For MD candidates only: In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B Visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
