Infectious Disease Sciences Program - Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases in the lmmunocompromised Host

Assistant or Associate Member/Professor

The Vaccine and Infectious Disease and Clinical Research Divisions of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Department of Medicine, at the University of Washington (UW) seek exceptional applicants for a full-time faculty appointment in the Physician/Scientist pathway. The position is at the level of an Assistant or Associate Member at Fred Hutch with a joint appointment as Assistant (10113) or Associate Professor (10112) at the UW. The primary appointment will be in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division at Fred Hutch. The UW appointment is a 12-month, multi-year and non-tenured position.

The primary responsibility of this position will be to develop an independent research program focused on the epidemiology of infectious diseases in cancer and transplant populations and/or immune-based therapies. This is intended to be a primarily non-laboratory-based position with the opportunity to develop partnerships with other investigators locally and externally. Other responsibilities would include attending on the infectious disease consult service in the cancer care setting. All applications from qualified candidates will be considered. We offer a highly collaborative and diverse research environment, generous start-up, and state-of-the-art core facilities.

The qualified candidate will hold an MD degree (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or board eligible in infectious diseases (or foreign equivalent). Expertise in working with immunocompromised hosts in a cancer care setting are desirable characteristics. Selection criteria include: demonstrated excellence in scholarship, experience in the clinical care of immunocompromised hosts, a track record in developing and advancing collaborations, success in obtaining independent peer-reviewed research support, and demonstrated leadership in the profession. In order to be eligible for sponsorship for an H-1B Visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Fred Hutch is a world-renowned research institution, with a wealth of scientific and clinical expertise in basic biologic sciences, human biology, clinical research, epidemiology, biostatistics, global oncology, cancer prevention research, and is home to three Nobel laureates. With the mission of eliminating cancer and related diseases as causes of human suffering and death, the Center conducts research of the highest standards to improve prevention and treatment of cancer and related diseases. The Center is located on a magnificent campus in the South Lake Union area of Seattle in close proximity to major research partners such as the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, Benaroya Research Institute, Center for Infectious Disease Research, and the Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI). Fred Hutch offers active training programs for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and offers exceptional opportunities for scientific interactions with other investigators in the Seattle area.

Interested candidates should submit a CV, a concise research plan statement, and the names and contact information for three (3) references to our application (https://apply.interfolio.com/48631). Please contact Christine Posavad, PhD, Senior Director of Faculty Affairs: cposavad@fredhutch.org with any questions.

Applications should be received by March 31, 2018 to assure consideration. Later applications may also be considered if the position has not been filled.
