JOB SUMMARY:

Provides centralized management for all hospital revenue cycle operational functions within Geisinger. Directs, manages, and implements programs to insure efficient operations of Geisinger Revenue Cycle program in order to generate sufficient cash flow to support Geisinger operations and strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include identifying, analyzing, reducing, and resolving approximately $300 million of hospital accounts receivable and insuring monthly cash flow of approximately $220 million. These responsibilities further include the management of approximately 145 FTE's in regard to approximately 3.5 million claims on an annual basis with an operating budget of $5.0 million.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Manages the hospital revenue cycle operational functions within the revenue cycle to include, but not limited to hospital billing, collections, reimbursement, secondary billing, A/R resolution, combined self-pay collections and cash flow.

2. Manages the above-mentioned activities of the Revenue Cycle to insure cost effectiveness and organizational efficiency.

3. Provides strategic direction to these functions and how the functions in question inter-relate to the other revenue cycle functions including Patient Access, Medical Records, Professional Billing and Collections, Revenue Enhancement, Human Resources, Information Systems, Financial Reporting, Process Improvement, Charge Entry, Training, Corporate Finance and Customer Service.

*4. Communicates the departmental activities to revenue cycle senior management and to the management staff of Geisinger as it relates to cash flow, organizational profitability, customer service and accounts receivable results.

*5. Works in conjunction with other areas within the revenue cycle and Geisinger to insure coordinated activities with respect to all revenue cycle needs.

6. Develops, implements and direct various quality initiatives to insure continuous monitoring and improvements within the revenue cycle process of Geisinger. This includes managing an overall departmental operating/capital budget(s) within pre-determined limits and within Freedom-To-Act guidelines to insure operational efficiencies and obtaining pre-determined performance targets.

*7. Facilitates various technological initiatives in support of business process improvements.

8. Assists with the establishment of a training school for all revenue cycle and Geisinger associates. This will also include the communication of all ongoing improvements relative to process improvement and employee development.

9. Involved, when required, in the development of various revenue cycle and Geisinger strategic plans.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

*Demonstrates extensive knowledge (i.e. minimum of seven years) of revenue cycle and/or regulatory requirements as they relate to the revenue cycle. Experience preferred within a similar setting of size or volume.

*Demonstrates strong presentation skills with the ability to effectively communicate to many different audience levels.

 

*Familiarity with computerized applications is essential.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:      

*Bachelor's degree in a related field required. Appropriate years of experience will be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree.

 

*Significant experience (minimum of seven (7) or more years) with payors, providers, hospitals and physicians in the revenue cycle management space.  Experience required in hospital accounts receivable management in large systems, defined as five (5) hospitals or more.  Understands the commensurate requirements for facilitating accounts receivable resolution, cash flow, billing and customer service issues.

 

*Experience within a centralized business office preferred.
