Description:
Internal Medicine Chief Resident for the 2018-2019 Academic Year. The Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine Internal Medicine Residency Program at Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) seeks a qualified applicant to serve as Chief Medical Resident (CMR) for the 2018-2019 Academic Year.
Position Summary:
The Chief Medical Resident position is a one-year experience that offers a unique blend of education, patient care, leadership, and administration. The CMR reports directly to the Program Director (Dr. Wiese-Rometsch) and/or her designee and to the SMH Chief of Medicine for issues related to Hospital Administration.

Requirements:
Qualifications & Licensure:
- Graduate of an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine
- Florida Medical License
- Board Eligible (should be registered for the internal medicine board certifying examination)
Job Duties:
Teaching:
- Supervises residents during a one-half day clinic session per at the Newtown Internal Medicine Ambulatory Practice or other clinical venue
- Serves as Attending on the Inpatient Service for a minimum of nine weeks (split into 3-week blocks)
- Conducts weekly chart review with residents on in-patient services
- Provides guidance for struggling learners
- Assists in the supervision of handoffs until competency achieved
- Participates and contributes to program’s educational conferences
Administration:
- Assists in the development and management of resident schedules
- Coordinates residents and medical students on the teaching services
- Provides orientation for all rotating residents and students in the inpatient services
- Organizes and schedules weekly educational conferences (noon report, weekly education half-day, etc)
- Serves as a resource for clinical and administrative questions, arranges sick coverage, and facilitates end-of-rotation feedback.
- Participates in program committees as requested inclusive of the Program Evaluation Committee, Clinical Competency Committees, Residency Operations Committee, Chief Resident Meeting, and Quality and Patient Safety Committees.
- Assists with recruitment activities for the Internal Medicine Residency and other Program-wide events.
Leadership:
- Provides leadership to the resident body and serve as a residency advocate. As problems are identified, provides feedback and suggestions for solving issues with residents and the faculty.
- Provides direct input and assistance to the Program Director on behalf of the residents on matters affecting the residents or their program
- Enforces residency program rules and refer grievances to the Program Director
- Conducts monthly Resident meetings and disseminate information to resident physicians
- Serves as a liaison between medicine and other teaching services to maintain a strong relationship.
Scholarship:
- Works under the mentorship of Dr. Robert Smith and/or other faculty members in the pursuit of scholarly work.
